The article is devoted to the research of book preferences of the Lutovinovs - Turgenevs in the second half of the XVIII century – the first half of the XIX century, in particular, the problem of the origin and formation of I. S. Turgenev's ancestral library. This article throws light upon the history of I. S. Turgenev's ancestral library, identifies literary tastes of the Lutovinovs' and Turgenevs' representatives, and concludes that the literary culture of Turgenevs had the influence on the formation of I. S. Turgenev's outlook. The article is based on archives (including unpublished), historical documents and memoirs.
